War

            In the movie “Transformers” alien robots are under attack. They are attacking the human population; they are in a war with the human population. Unfortunately for this man Shia, he is who the alien robots want to kill the most so they are constantly going against him to kill him. The two types of alien robots are the Autobots and the Decepticons. The alien robots are under attack because they want to destroy the Earth, the Sun and all of the living things on Earth. My reaction to this movie is that the humans should have been able to find a way to defeat the robots. The humans should have never let the robots get so powerful, how did they let them get so powerful with all the technology that they have? Maybe the alien robots were so big and powerful that they couldn’t be destroyed, maybe the humans felt as if they were going to die anyways so they lost all hope.

            The purpose of this movie is to show how fragile the human population is and how easily we become scared of things when we are under attack and faced with a problem. When the robots attacked the humans they were scared and it was like they accepted the fact that they were under attack. They thought to themselves that they can’t do anything about it and it was almost as if they threw in the towel. The specific techniques used were the size of the robots. The alien robots were huge in their size which showed how powerful they are and it really had an emphasis on the people because their size scared them away in trying to kill the alien robots. The overall effect of this work is to that us as humans when things are going bad, we always rely on other people to stop the problem instead of actually facing the problem ourselves and doing what we have to do to get the problem or situation fixed.

            In the movie “Transformers” the word humans mean you are fragile. You are being attacked by alien robots who want to destroy the Earth and all the living things on it. You are no match to the robots who are much stronger than you are so you lose all hope as a population because you know that you are going to be killed by the alien robots. The humans start to do things that they never did before.

            Our depictions of the future reveal that the present is a time that we can enjoy because you never know what the future is going to bring. The future can either be great or it can be bad and filled with bad, terror and destruction. We use imagery and language to manipulate people’s minds because when someone says something, the people in the movies can make it sound like he actually meant something else rather than what he really said or they can put emphasis on it by making the person scream or show their emotions.

The Pledge of Allegiance

Religion

            The Pledge of Allegiance is a very controversial document due to the fact that not everybody wants to pledge to the flag because they are not from this country. This is especially seen in classrooms in the United States of America where we see teachers who make their students stand up for the Pledge of Allegiance. Teachers make it mandatory because they believe that if you live in this country then you have to stand for the pledge no matter what your religion is or what you believe in. Is this right? Should teachers make students stand for the pledge even if it is against their religion or what they believe in? My reaction to this is that I believe that if you live in America then you have to follow the American way of life. You already have enough freedom to do what you need to do and do what you need to worship. But the pledge is different, it shows respect and if you don’t stand up for the Pledge of Allegiance you are showing no respect for America and you are not following the American way of life. Everybody needs to stand for the pledge no matter what they believe in because it is the right thing to do.

            The purpose of this work is to show the controversial issue that the Pledge of Allegiance presents in the classroom throughout the United States of America. The question whether or not student should have to stand for the pledge is a very big topic trending in the world. Also the question of the words of the Pledge of Allegiance raises much controversy. The phrase “one nation under god” is very controversial because some people do not believe in good because they think that he is fake or that they believe in another higher power that they worship from their country’s beliefs. The specific techniques used to achieve this purpose is the picture of the Statue of Liberty. This statue represents power of the American people as one country all standing strong together. It is a sign that America will never fall. This statue shows power and it is one of the great iconic figures in this world. The overall effect of this work is to show you that the pledge is a sign of respect to America and as long as you are living in this country then you have to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.

            Our depictions of the future reveal that the present allows you to make your own choices and you have a lot more lee way now than you may have in the future. Now if you refuse to stand up for the Pledge of Allegiance the worst that may happen to you is that you get suspended. But who knows in the future if you refuse to stand up for the Pledge of Allegiance you might be killed or face severe consequences. Greater penalties and punishments will come to life in the future as the new technology gets more advanced because if technology is advancing then the rules and obligations also have to increase and become harsher so the technology doesn’t out due to the rules and order in the society.

Farenheit 451

Government

In this book Fahrenheit 451 people in the town are brainwashed by the government into believing that burning books and houses are the right thing to do. People do not question the government; they just do what they are told to do without questioning it. The government put set rules and regulations in place for the people to follow. They are all about conformity and censorship in this society. The main character, Guy Montag burns the books at first just like the rest of the society, but later in the book he begins to question if burning books is the right thing to do. He soon stops burning books with the help of his friend Faber; he begins to say that burning books is bad. He wants to now read the books because of the knowledge that the books contain. The problem with this is that nobody else reads the books so the whole culture needs to change in order for the burning of the books to stop occurring. My reaction to this is that what is so bad about reading books? Books provide knowledge to people and increases ones wisdom. Books are meant to be read not burned. If you burn the books you are setting a bad example for the younger children of the society. If the young children see people burning the books then they are going to be apt to burn the books also, they are not going to understand what they are doing, and they are just going to follow what everybody else is doing.

The purpose of this book is to show how not letting people be individuals will ruin society. Everybody is their own person and everybody has the right to do the things that they want to do. There shouldn’t be set rules and regulations that the people need to follow because this is taking away their freedom. Everybody can’t be alike because everybody is their own person and has the right to make their own decisions. When everybody in the society is alike and they look the same then the society becomes boring because everybody is similar. One’s uniqueness and how nobody is absolutely alike is what makes society special and to disrupt this is not good for the society as we seen in the book Fahrenheit 451. The specific techniques used to achieve this purpose is shown by Guy Montag breaking out of the normal routine when he decides to not burn the books, this is a big step for society because someone went against the government for the first time. Also the Hound is a specific technique in the book. The Hound is used to show Montag’s courage and how he went against the government and read the books. The overall effect of this book shows that conformity causes people to not truly be themselves; it makes people be laid back and not make their own decisions.

In this book, the word “human” means you have no rights, you have to abide by the rules of the society, you can’t be yourself, you can’t do the things you want to do and you are conformed to certain rules and regulations. This view of humans in this book is the total opposite of what humans actually are in real life. We as humans can make our own decisions without having to abide by any strict or harsh rules set by the government. The government allows us to make our own decisions. We are not like anybody else, everybody is different and that is what makes society so unique, because everybody is different and everybody does different things.

Our depictions of the future reveal that the present is a time to nurture and take very good care of because it could be gone in an instant. We have to cherish every moment because at any time the government could take our power away of being free and they could control us like robots as we seen in the book Fahrenheit 451. If the government took our freedom away the society would become corrupt because we would not be able to do the things anymore that we used to do on a regular basis.

Wall-E

Enviornment

In the movie “Wall-E” the year is 2105 and the Earth is covered in trash and it is not livable. Therefore the human population is forced into space and they have to live there since the Earth is unlivable. When in space there are robots named Wall-E who are sent by an army to clean up the Earth and restore its living conditions. But after 700 years all the robots disappeared except for one and the Earth is still a mess. Wall-E is the only living robot, but he soon falls in love with a probe named Eve, they travel into space in hopes of saving humanity. My reaction to this movie is that I believe it shows a good and accurate view of the future. Most movies scare you into believing bad things about the future, but this movie shows a different side of the future. This movie is aimed probably to let the young children be aware of the problems of the Earth. They present the problems of the Earth in a lighter way so the younger population won’t be afraid of the future. They provide them with facts and knowledge about the Earth and how we are pollution the environment and maybe one day the Earth will be so polluted that we might not be able to live on Earth if this problem of pollution continues. Yes, this movie is helpful because it talks about the Earth’s problems in a lighter way, aiming at a younger age group because they are the ones that can make a difference and help the future be a good and clean place.

The purpose of this work is to show the affects of pollution and how the Earth can be ruined in the near future if we do not take the positive steps toward cleaning up the Earth. Everybody needs to help to clean up the Earth. This is why I believe that this movie is intended toward the younger kids because they are the ones that can make a difference and they are the ones who will be our future. Not the old people because they are going to be dead by the time the Earth is near disaster, people need to realize that what we do now will greatly affect our future. The specific techniques used to achieve this purpose are the robots all disappearing after 700 years on the Earth. This is a technique because robots are meant to be indestructible. But since the Earth was so polluted the robots could not survive on Earth because the conditions were unlivable. This suggests the severity of the pollution that could be on Earth in the near future if we do not take the right steps forward now. The overall effect of this work is that it lets the human population know in a funnier, lighter way that the Earth is being destroyed but it is not too late. It can still be fixed but we need everybody to work together to fix the problem of pollution on Earth.

In this movie the word “human” means that people are selfish and only care about themselves because they are ruining the Earth by polluting it. People only care bout themselves so they keep polluting the Earth because it is not affecting them because they are going to be dead by the time the Earth is drastically seeing the effects of pollution. The humans who are supposed to be helping the Earth are instead harming it by polluting the environment. In this movie they polluted the Earth so bad that they had to move into space because the Earth was no longer suited for living.

Our depictions of the future reveal that the present is moving in such drastic speed that it might already be too late to try to save the Earth. All of the movies are coming out about the future and how bad it is going to be, and maybe they are right. Maybe they can predict the future because of the way we are treating the Earth right now. The Earth right now is a very fragile place and we might have already pushed it too far and it could be on the brink of destruction. The Earth is a very powerful place and the more we harm it, the more it will harm us in the future.

In this movie they used images and language to manipulate our minds by using the robots in place of the people. They forced the people to move into out of space so the robots could clean the Earth but instead of cleaning it they were actually all destroyed except for one robot, Wall-E. By picking the robots to be eliminated on Earth instead of the people make the movie appear to be a lighter film regarding the future. If they chose the people to be eliminated then it would just be like all the other movies about the future, people would get scared.   

Hardware

Biotechnology

            In the movie trailer of “Hardware” it portrays the future as a place of overcrowding, sickness and misery. People are in distress after the nuclear war they just had in the 21^st century. After the war a soldier bought a robotic skull for his girlfriend who is an artist. This seems fin but there is one problem with this, the robot is still alive and nobody realizes that it is still alive. This robot is capable of self-repairing itself. They named the robot M.A.R.K 13. The robot went around using toxins and lethal weapons such as saw blades to kill any humans that were nearby in sight. People were losing hope in society so they started relying on outdated computer technology that was decaying each and every day. My personal response to this text is that the director did a very good job in this movie with the robot. He made the robot witty and the robot was a very deceptive person because he played dead in various parts of the movie when he wanted to kill the humans. He played dead so he could kill the humans and the humans would just think that he is dead already, so it is like the robot had an advantage over the humans because the humans weren’t ready to be attacked because they thought that the robot was dead.

            The purpose of this work is to show how low the human life is when things are not going their way. The humans were upset that their lives were turning to disaster and they were living in the slums so they became too dependent on technology but once the technology became outdated they had nowhere to turn. They became too dependent on technology and were open to be attacked by the robot that was playing dead. The specific techniques used to achieve this purpose were the color scheme of the red and the black. These two colors are dark and depressing colors and they portray a negative feeling. Also the face of the man in the movie cover is very threatening looking. This portrays a threatening feeling and gives the viewers something to chew on. It makes them wonder who this person is. It makes them question if he is evil or good, and what is his purpose in the movie. The overall effect of this movie is portrays a life in the future that is in distress. People are in misery and their lives are in disaster because of the technology that they can no longer rely on. The movie is negatively connotated and like many other movies of the future, the future is portrayed as a negative place that is degrading each and every day.

            In this movie the word “human” means you are in misery and you are in misery because of the reliance of technology that you depended on for years and now that technology is failing you so you do not know what to do. The word “human” means that your life is being taken over by robots and they are killing people and they are growing in numbers each and every day. In this movie the humans are losing power while the robots are gaining strength, ultimately leading for the population being destroyed because of how powerful the robots have become in this movie.

            Our depictions of the future reveal that the present is a very fragile time in our lives right now. We are either heading toward a future of greatness or a future of destruction. We have all of this advanced technology and there is so much more new technology to be made. This technology could either be helpful or hurt us greatly and lead to our destruction. Most of the people predict and portray the future as a bad place because of the way people are harming the Earth right now but it is not too late to change things and make a positive step toward the future so that the future can be a better place.

iRobot

Biotechnology

            In the movie clip from “iRobot” robots are taking over the world in Chicago in the year 2035. These robots are not supposed to harm humans because that is the number one rule about robots that they can’t harm people. But these robots are causing destruction and harming the humans, even killing some humans but nobody believes that the robots are killing humans until it is too late. So a detective who is played by Will Smith go on an investigation in order to try and see if these robots are really responsible for the death of some humans. My personal response to this work is that the people should have seen that they robots were destroying and ruining their lives so they should of tried to stop them and eliminate their power. This goes to show you how the rapid advancement in technology caused many humans to die because they robots were actually more powerful than the humans, who are supposed to be the most powerful species on Earth because there are so many of us.

            The purpose of this work is to show how powerful the technology could be in the future. The robots were so powerful that they could even kill humans, which made humans afraid of them. The robots brainwashed the humans into doing everyday chores and everything else that they wanted them to do because the humans were so afraid of the robots. This reminds me of the book Fahrenheit 451 because a similar brainwashing was involved in the book that was also involved in the movie clip from “robot.” The robots brainwashed the humans in the movies, and in Fahrenheit 451 the government brainwashed the people into believing that burning the books were alright. This shows you how powerful our technology could be getting in the future and how fragile the people are. People are afraid to speak out against things and break out onto their own pack. They always want to follow what everybody else is doing and that is not necessarily always right. The specific techniques used to achieve this purpose were the robots acting as humans which shows you that the robots were taking over the human lifestyle and they were slowly pushing the humans out of the way they used to do things. For example the robots were walking dogs down the street which is what humans usually do on a daily basis. The overall effect of this work is to show you that the future will have a rapid advancement in technology and we have to be ready for it. In this movie clip the people were not ready for this rapid advancement. The robots took over their lifestyle and that led to their destruction. The robots were treating the humans as slaves and this shows you the struggle for equality in that society because of the way the robots were treating the humans.

            In this clip the word human means you are brainwashed by the robots into doing everything that they say because you are afraid of them because they are so powerful. The word human means you are being controlled by someone instead of you being able to make your own decisions and live your own lifestyle. It is like you have someone running your life for you. You are not being treated equally and you have no say in what you do and don’t do. It is like you have a king ruling you and he tells you everything to do and gives you certain rules and regulations that you have to follow or else you are going to die.

            Our depictions of the future reveal that the present is much easier than what we as humans make it seem. We make it seem that we are living such a horrible life but in reality we really have it made and we are lucky for what we have because not everybody is as fortunate as us to have what we have. Especially us kids, we are growing up in a world of great technology and great activities that we can pursue. We have pretty much everything and most importantly we have the ability to do these things. A lot of people in other countries do not have the freedom that we have. They are being ruled by a dictator or it is not safe for them to go outside and do the things they want to do because of war or for whatever reason. In the movie clip from “irobot” they used images and language to manipulate people’s minds by showing the affects that the robots had on the people. The caused the people to live in fear and they manipulated their minds into doing everything that the robots asked of them. In this movie, the robots were far more powerful than the humans, which seem scary because we could be faced with that in the future if our technology keeps on making rapid advancements.

The Day After Tomorrow

Enviornment

In this movie clip of “The Day After Tomorrow” it explains the environmental affects that we are going to be presented with in the future if we as a population do not start moving in the right direction. Right now we are hurting the environment and we are destroying it instead of helping it. We are destroying the environment and we are destroying the habitat for our animals such as the polar bear. Global warming is a very big problem, the Earth is getting warmer each year but it is also getting much colder as we seen last winter with all of the snow we had. I believe that we had record amounts of snow fall last winter. The polar bears cannot live in the warm weather; they need the cold to survive. Their ice caps are melting and therefore they are having trouble getting food and they are huge creatures that can’t last in a warm environment. The polar bears depend on us to take care of the Earth. It is like a network if one piece of the network goes down then everything is going to slowly deteriorate and that is what we are experiencing now, slowly but surely. My personal response to this movie clip is that we as a population have to make the right decisions now before it is too late. We need to stop relying on everyone else and do it ourselves. If everybody believes that somebody else will do the job then nothing will get done. We need to change our ways and our habits, for us, for our children, for our children’s children and for the animals because everything relies on each other to survive and we need to hold up our end.   

            The purpose of this clip is to show the environmental affects that we are harming the Earth with such as global warming and pollution. If we keep this up then the clip shows what life could be like for us in the future, we are going to be destroyed. There will be rain for days, tsunamis, cities would be flooded, the world would be in chaos, there would be tornadoes and hurricanes and the world would be a complete disaster in the future for us at this rate so we need to change the way we are living. The specific techniques that were used to achieve this purpose was images of what could happen to us in the future, these images are meant to scare us in hopes that we as a population would get our act together and stop living the way that we are living. Also at the end of the clip it says “Where will you be the day after tomorrow?” This is meant for us to question where we will be. Will we be here still? Or will it be too late? This also brings fear in your eyes because you realize that what we are doing now is going to affect us greatly in the future. The overall effect of this work is to show that we need to clean up our act before it is too late, not just for us but for future generations and animals.

            In the movie clip of “The Day After Tomorrow” the word human is presented to us as a person who is doing what needs to be done in their society in order to keep it going. They are not slacking; they are doing their everyday work trying to better the society. But in this movie clip I believe that they are portraying the human race as lazy because we are not doing our job to protect our planet. We are being lazy and we are trying to rely on everybody else to help the planet instead of doing it ourselves. So I believe that the movie is portraying us as being “inhumane” because we are doing more harm to our planet than actually helping our planet.

            Our depictions of the future are scary because we do not actually know what is going to happen in the future, but everybody has their guesses. Everybody’s guesses always project the worst for us, but what if the future is going to be great? What if the future ends up being the best time of our lives? Our depictions of the future reveal that in the present we have to do more things in order for us to be around in the future. We need to all recycle, practice good habits, make good decisions, help each other, rely on each other and use each other as a tool in order to help the planet before it is too late.

            The language and the images in this movie clip are scary because it makes everybody wonder if this is what life in the future could really look like. These images portray the future as a bad place because we are not helping the earth right now, we are actually destroying it.  

Gataca

Inequality (race,gender etc)

In the movie “Gattaca” you see the biogenetic and the DNA part of the future. They say that this could happen in the near future, there will be a specific gene and your genes will ultimately determine your fate. Your genes and your DNA will determine where you work, where you live and the things that you do. They may use this as a way to track people and to make sure everybody is doing their job and that they are in the correct place. Everybody will have the same DNA, this means that everybody will look the same and do the same things. My reaction to this is that this is not good for the people in the future. You cannot conform a certain person to act a certain way or do certain things because everybody is different and everybody does different things. Everybody would not want to be the same because the world would be boring. What makes us so different and unique than everybody else is our ability to be free and do whatever we want. I feel like if we all have the same DNA then it is like we are being controlled and we are not free anymore. It is like they are putting restrictions and limits on us as a way to control us, this is ultimately not right and will not work, it will only cause chaos and disaster. In the movie you already see this not working because the people seem hopeless and it looks like they know what they are heading to and they are losing hope each day.

The purpose of this movie trailer is to show the effects and the consequences that the advanced technology could have on us in the future. Technology is great, it really helps us in life and it makes things easier for us. But how much technology is enough? When will technology get too advanced for us? We see this advancement in technology in the movie “Gattaca” where technology is too advanced for the people and it ultimately ends up hurting us.  We see the consequences of the new technology. With the new technology where everybody has the same DNA people are trying to search for themselves. They are trying to find out who they actually are and the things that they like to do. It is almost like they are in someone else’s body and they are trying to get out of it before it is too late. They are trying to figure out their purpose in life and what they are destined to be. The techniques used to achieve this purpose are at the beginning of the movie the letters G, A, T, C were all highlighted in the title. I believe that G, A, T, and C are all the different gene types. So this really emphasizes that the movie will be about DNA and gene types. Also they show the people after their DNA has been changed, they look shocked, hopeless and they look like they don’t know where they are, like they are new to a place and it’s their first time being there. The overall purpose of this work is to show that technology is good but it can also have its consequences as shown through the movie clip “Gattaca.”

In this movie the word “human” means that everybody is exactly the same and they have the same DNA and genes and there are specific jobs for every person in their society. The humans have strict rules and regulations that they have to follow. When I think of the word “human” I think of everybody being different, people wearing different clothes and people just doing whatever they want to do. But in this movie the humans cannot do that, they are controlled and have to follow the society’s rules. But what happens if they do not follow these rules? What happens if they use civil disobedience?  What happens if they go against what everybody else is doing?

Our depictions of the future reveal that the present may not be as bad as we make it out to be. We teenagers are always complaining about school and how much work we have to do and how busy we are. But look at all the things that we can do, we are free and have the right to do anything and be who we want to be, not what someone else wants us to be. As we see in this movie people in the future may not be as lucky as us, they might have to accept certain rules and limitations on their lifestyles.
